Google Docs, Sheets and Slides apps can now run side by side on Apple iPads

Google has finally updated its app to support iOS 9’s Split Screen multi-tasking feature available on the Apple’s iPad Pro 12.9. iPad Pro 9.7 and the iPad Air 2. The new version tagged as 1.2016.30204 for Docs, Slides and 1.2016.30206 for the Sheets app, basically brings along support for the iPad’s multi-tasking feature and nothing else.
We have no clue why Google woke up so late, but nonetheless it will be useful to those who are glued to Google services. Google however pegs the update as move to use two of its apps simultaneously. The apps, at best, are not as intuitive compared to other offerings from Microsoft.
Apart from multi-tasking we get the usual bug fixes and improvements. Google has also finally added support to insert images and page breaks for the Docs apps.
While Google has been bringing new apps to iOS, those apps still stick to Google’s Material Design guidelines. Indeed, Google needs to move on, similar to what Microsoft did a few years ago. After moving on from Metro UI like apps, we today have some beautiful apps for the iPad that look like they have been designed for iOS and not ported from Windows Phone. Google could do with a dose of the same.
