Have something to say to President Barack Obama? Now you can get in touch with the Commander in Chief via Facebook Messenger.
The White House just launched a new Messenger bot, which makes sending a personal note directly to the President of the United States almost as easy as messaging a friend.
To try it out, just head over to the White House Facebook page, click the button that says "Message," and press "Lets go."
From there, type your message (be sure to double check it for grammatical and spelling errors; you are sending a note to the President, after all), fill out your contact information, press send, and voila. This is the first time citizens have been able to privately message Obama via Facebook.
The new bot follows Obama's tradition of reading 10 letters a day sent to him by citizens—something the president has done since taking office in 2009. With this new option, Obama is hoping to "meet people where they are," and make it easier for citizens to interact with their government, the White House said in its announcement."To make sure that in all the hustle and bustle that's taken place here, we don't lose sight of why we're here—which is a bunch of citizens all across the country, needing our help, seeking advice, more than occasionally being angry, wanting to be heard," Obama said in a statement.
"And what's interesting is not only do these letters help me to stay in touch with the people who sent me here, or the people who voted against me, but a lot of times they identify problems that might not have percolated up through the various agencies and bureaucracies," he continued. "And more than once there have been occasions where these letters inspired action on real problems that are out there."
